Well, I awoke to a surprisingly sore neck this morning. The first thing the ego does is look for a non-existent CAUSE outside in the body, in another, in the past or in the world. It wants the cause to be placed anywhere but in my own mind. That way I won’t discover and heal the real cause – UNFORGIVENESS.
Anyway, I opened the Course (ACIM) to Chapter 27, Section 2. After two minutes of reading, the neck pain was gone. I remembered the solitary CAUSE of all pain in that moment and was able to accept instantaneous healing. Wow! This section is mega profound! It’s so helpful that I felt the inner nudge to share it and comment on it below. My notes are in brackets [ ]. I hope this helps you as it did for me. “Is healing frightening? To many, yes. For accusation is a bar to love, and damaged bodies are accusers. [We unknowingly use sickness, pain and suffering as a PHYSICAL WITNESSES to prove we have been victimized. And it follows that we must be ACCUSERS if we believe we can suffer at all]. They [sick or damaged bodies] stand firmly in the way of trust and peace, proclaiming that the frail can have no trust and that the damaged have no grounds for peace. Who has been injured by his brother, and could love and trust him still? He has attacked and will attack again. Protect him not, because your damaged body shows that YOU must be protected from him.”[To the ego a damaged body shows that we cannot trust our brother and further, that we need to keep our sickness/suffering as PROTECTION from him.]
The unhealed cannot pardon. For they are the witnesses that pardon is unfair. They would retain the consequences of the guilt they overlook. [The ego cannot forgive because it believes in irrevocable sin instead of innocent mistakes. It would rather use the body in pain, sickness and death in order to maintain its proof that we have been UNFAIRLY TREATED. Unconsciously, we retain SICKNESS to prove that we are innocent victims. “Corrupted innocence” always demands a guilty perpetrator; perhaps the body, another, our self, the world or God]. Yet no one can forgive a sin that he believes is real. And what has consequences must be real, because what it has done is there to see. [We cannot forgive something we still believe is real. Sickness and pain are the consequences of what the ego deems as real sin. Yet True forgiveness DEMONSTRATES literally that there are zero EFFECTS of guilt. While the “effects” of sin are retained as pain, disease, etc., then True forgiveness is not complete.]
To witness sin and yet forgive it is a paradox that reason cannot see. For it maintains what has been done to you deserves no pardon. And by giving it, you grant your brother mercy but retain the proof he is not really innocent. [The ego thrives on false forgiveness, on its belief in the REALITY of attack. Then it tries to overlook the attack while projecting its wrath onto the body. All to prove that “sin” is unforgiveable. ]
The sick remain accusers. They cannot forgive their brothers and themselves as well. For no one in whom true forgiveness rests can suffer. He holds not the proof of sin [damaged body] before his brother’s eyes. And thus he must have overlooked it and removed it from his own. [He must have wholeheartedly accepted the Atonement. He saw that the seeming attack DID NOT HAPPEN; that it was a “self-inflicted” imagining which arose from fear and not from his Holy Self.] Forgiveness cannot be for one and not the other. Who forgives is healed. And in his healing lies the proof that he has truly pardoned, and retains no trace of condemnation that he still would hold against himself or any living thing.
Forgiveness is not real unless it brings a healing to your brother and yourself. You must attest his sins have no effect on you to demonstrate they are not real. How else could he be guiltless? And how could his innocence be justified unless his sins have no effect to warrant guilt? [When must be willing to declare that no sin, no attack ever occurred. We made a mistake in perceiving attack, in believing in a power OTHER THAN GOD’S LOVE. How better to DEMONSTRATE total forgiveness than to have the EFFECTS of imagined sin (damaged body) be miraculously healed? How better to demonstrate complete guiltlessness for everyone than to reveal a body healed EXCLUSIVELY by accepting the Atonement/miracle/forgiveness? After all, this is precisely WHY Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead and why He tells us that we will do as He did…and more.
Sins are beyond forgiveness just because they would entail effects [broken body] that cannot be undone and overlooked entirely. In their undoing [healing the body exclusively via the Atonement] lies the proof that they are merely errors. Let yourself be healed that you may be forgiving, offering salvation to your brother and yourself.
A broken body shows the mind has not been healed. A miracle of healing proves that separation is without effect. [A sick body shows that True forgiveness has not taken place. A miraculous healing via acceptance of the Atonement, PROVES that attack NEVER OCCURRED because all the physical consequences have disappeared. Thus the miracle proves that what we imagined happened (separation), did not occur. Only God’s perfect Will is all there is to see – ever. And we will see it when we BELIEVE IT!]
What you would prove to him you will believe. The power of witness comes from your belief. And everything you say or do or think but testifies to what you teach to him. Your body can be means to teach that it has never suffered pain because of him. And in its healing can it offer him mute testimony of his innocence. It is this testimony that can speak with power greater than a thousand tongues. For here is his forgiveness proved to him.
[Our body’s ONLY purpose is to communicate Love. Love is the demonstration that all seeming attack NEVER HAPPENED. We can use the body to DEMONSTRATE God’s Love by showing that it was never attacked. This is what the miracle is FOR. Thus we are teaching like Jesus, that the guiltless mind CANNOT SUFFER. We demonstrate quite literally that everyone is completely guiltless. They are pure innocence and so are we because we have invoked the miracle to UNDO both the cause and the effects of guilt. This is its role.
A miracle can offer nothing less to him than it has given unto you. So does your healing show your mind is healed, and has forgiven what he did not do. And so is he convinced his innocence was never lost, and healed along with you. Thus does the miracle undo all things the world attests can never be undone. And hopelessness and death must disappear before the ancient clarion call of life. This call has power far beyond the weak and miserable cry of death and guilt.
[In summary, if we truly want to heal then we must cultivate an overwhelming desire to BELIEVE with undivided conviction despite the ego’s imaginings of suffering and all its stories…that NONE OF IT HAPPENED. We have to want to KNOW this with every fiber of our being; we must want this MORE than we desire a physical healing.
No one hurt us – ever. If the seeming ego’s of others do not exist. And only our indestructible, shared Holy Self is real and if our ego does not exist…”who” then, suffered? Think about that. Feel into it. The only one who seems to suffer is FALSE and does not exist.
The “self” who suffers MUST retain its corrupted innocence at the expense of another’s guilt. This self cannot survive without projecting guilt. It cares not WHERE that guilt is projected (others, self, the body, God, the world, etc.). Suffering is its way of making sure it retains its façade of corrupted innocence. It’s quite content to suffer and even to die; all to keep up the charade. You see, we cannot possibly KNOW our innocence unequivocally and therefore embody our divine indestructibility until we willingly release the belief that we were or could be attacked. I want to re-read this article many times and then again next year. I want to journal it, memorize it and practice it. I have lived a lifetime of physical pain and after trying every solution known to the ego world I am ready to give up guilt and corrupted innocence. I have always felt a “heaviness” that I thought was depression but in truth it is blame and un-forgiveness. Un-forgiveness is a heavy burden to carry around. Like a back pack full of rocks and sand to fill the cracks between those rocks. Then my tears turn that mess into cement. Ugh. Thank you Nouk. Thank you Jesus for this teaching. Thank you Holy Spirit for not giving up on me. I am so grateful there are no words.
Rosemarie, I so resonate with your description of that “heaviness” that most of us attribute to everything else, BUT guilt and un-forgiveness. And that is why the body dies.
