When we accept the Atonement, the miracle, what actually happens? Forgiveness is the relinquishment of guilt which is the singular cause of all forms of fear, judgment, grievances, conflict, shame, self-blame, concern, anxiety, worry, pain or illness, lack, etc. The guilt which spawned these forms of fear is relinquished in exchange for the miracle. This is a shift in perception which cancels out the seeming “effects” or consequences of guilt and fear. Once the cause of error is undone the effects, including pain and sickness are free to fall away as well.

I’m learning something huge. The fundamental cause of all suffering arises from a deeply held and cherished ego belief: “I am not worthy.” At the very core of this belief is the darkest secret of all time.

To believe that “I am not worthy” is a decision to reject Love as our Holy Self; which is a rejection of God. This belief in unworthiness is really arrogance because we seek to identify as the ego rather than as God’s immaculate Child. The statement, “God Himself is incomplete without me”, is not arrogance but True humility. It’s a declaration stating that we are one with God and that there is no opposite of God.

To believe we are not worthy is a choice to retain guilt. Guilt and fear are the ego’s lifeblood and they fuel all the desires and defenses that we’ve ever had. Guilt, fear and unworthiness act as our fiercest defenses against remembering our True Identity as Love without opposite.

The Miracle restores Perfection to our Awareness

“The miracle does nothing. All it does is to undo. And thus it cancels out the interference to what has been done. It does not add, but merely takes away. And what it takes away is long since gone, but being kept in memory appears to have immediate effects. This world was over long ago. The thoughts that made it are no longer in the mind that thought of them and loved them for a little while. The miracle but shows the past is gone, and what has truly gone has no effects. Remembering a cause can but produce illusions of its presence, not effects.”

“All the effects of guilt are here no more. For guilt is over. In its passing went its consequences, left without a cause. Why would you cling to it in memory if you did not desire its effects? Remembering is as selective as perception, being its past tense. It is perception of the past as if it were occurring now, and still were there to see. Memory, like perception, is a skill made up by you to take the place of what God gave in your creation. And like all the things you made, it can be used to serve another purpose, and to be the means for something else. It can be used to heal and not to hurt, if you so wish it be.” T-28.I.1,2

Jesus says outright here that the miracle simply cancels out the interference to what has already been done. He refers to the perfection of God and His Son (us) as having already been done. What we seem to see and feel through the ego filter (pain, sickness, conflict, lack and death, etc.) does not exist. The miracle simply removes the filter and because pain, sickness, conflict, lack and death reside within the “filter” and never in us, once the filter is removed then so are its consequences.

This is why there is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not any harder to manifest than another. Everything not of God’s Love and healing does not exist. These are imaginary projections which, while we value our unworthiness, are held in place in awareness yet they are not known by God.

Miracles do not require time because their purpose is to collapse it. Miracles do not obey biological laws because they supersede them. Miracles transcend matter because there is no creative ability in matter which the healed (guiltless) mind cannot control. Therefore, miracles restore perfection to our awareness.

The body is 100% neutral. Pain, illness and death are illusions which have no cause because they are projections from a filter that does not exist. This is why the miracle can heal anything instantaneously. The neutral body is always perfect. It cannot become sick or die unless we believe that it is more powerful than the mind that made it.

The “filter” or ego is the secret desire to deny Love/God (our Holy Self). The root of the false self is the unconscious desire for guilt which is expressed through many disguised forms of self-attack.

Claiming our Innocence in Awareness

To heal whatever it is that I seem to see externally, in my body, in another, in the past or in the world, I must first accept my own guiltless state, even if for only a moment, one Holy Instant. Guiltlessness is fearlessness. All errors begin in the mind before they are seen in the body or world. In Truth, guilt does not exist. As darkness is merely the absence of light, so is guilt the absence of Love.

Guilt does not exist. God does not know guilt. Yet guilt is the sole cause of all the seeming effects of suffering. We cannot have an effect without a cause. Yet if the cause of pain does not exist how on earth can pain (illness, death, etc) be a real effect? It can only appear real if we believe that our guilt is warranted. It can only appear real when we value guilt (judgment, conflict, grievances, self-blame, etc).

Guilt blocks me from receiving God’s perfect Will which is healing. Healing and guilt are mutually exclusive. Embrace one and I reject the other.

Because guilt does not exist, there is literally no cause for sickness, pain, conflict, lack or death. Guilt is simply the absence in awareness of my complete guiltlessness. And it’s this awareness of my guiltless state that is restored when I accept the Atonement; the divine undoing of guilt and fear in my perception. Without guilt I AM with God. So now, in the undoing of the only cause of suffering, the effects, such as sickness, pain or conflict, etc., are free to dematerialize.

The sole responsibility of the miracle worker is to accept the Atonement for himself. Heal the cause in my own mind, and the effects must fall away because in my guiltlessness nothing remains to sustain its imaginary projection. Atonement restores the Real World to my awareness because it removes the filter of guilt and unworthiness through which I experience the body, my relationships, the past and the world. Now I see everything as it really is – perfect Innocence, glowing with Love, joy and health.

Literally, the healing of the world rests entirely on the recognition and acceptance of my own incorruptible Innocence. And it’s not so much about trying to see the Christ in another but more so to accept the Christ within, to accept my own guiltlessness; to say sorry to my Self for having believed in fear, guilt and unworthiness.

As I express this my heart opens to healing and is therefore open to receive the miracle, the Atonement. Lastly, when I feel this shift from fear to Love, there is a profound sense of gratitude which confirms the certainty of God’s Healing has already taken place. This presence of gratitude disqualifies all doubt and fear. It assures me that I can trust in God completely. Healing is already done because God’s Will is healing and His Will is already done. My only task is to receive it…
