An Excerpt from The End of Death

“Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven, because that is where the laws of God operate truly, and they can operate only truly because they are the laws of truth. But seek this only, because you can find nothing else. There [is] nothing else. God is All in all in a very literal sense. All being is in Him Who is all Being. You are therefore in Him since your being is His.” T-7.IV.7:1-6

While undoing the blocks to the awareness of Love’s presence usually takes time, there is a means by which we can help to quicken the process considerably. We can accelerate the Atonement’s effectiveness by willingly unearthing all the ego’s hidden blocks (beliefs, values, laws, etc) so they can be reinterpreted by Spirit. But this demands a heartfelt commitment and discipline to prioritize forgiveness and accepting Atonement above and beyond all other goals and agendas.

What is the purpose of the body? Do you still believe that “it” sustains your life here in the ego dream? Or do you believe (and trust deeply) that God’s Love and Life sustains the body? Your radical self-honesty is important. If you believe that you (ego) are independently responsible for the body, and not God, and that the body can sicken or decline of its own, then you have mistakenly given your body’s purpose to the ego. The ego’s purpose for the body is separation and suffering. And remember the ego’s fixed and primary goal is physical death; to keep your awareness away from your Holy Self and stuck instead within the wheel of time, separation, suffering and amnesia.

Until we undo our dependence on the ego’s false idols and laws as being the means to both sustain and attack us here in the world, we won’t be willing to trust exclusively in God’s Loving Will. Unconsciously, we will fear God and choose instead, to trust what the ego projects, what it sends our body’s senses to find. This consists of all the ego’s projections that are not the Will of God, such as pain, illness, loss, depression, scarcity, accidents, conflict, betrayal, abandonment, and finally, physical death. And it will find exactly what the ego needs to “prove” that we are indeed victims of the world we see. In order to really trust in God via our Holy Self, we must be willing to have every belief in the ego’s world, including its idols and its laws, reversed (forgiven).

While we attempt to defend ourselves from the ego’s laws, we buy into the fear that makes them real in our perception. This is why all “magic”  are forms of ego defense; both the seeming negative ones (sickness, pain, etc) and the positive ones (therapeutic remedies and other substitutes for trusting in God’s Love and Healing within us). While it’s okay to use magic remedies, at some stage in our development of trust, we will feel the inner prompt from Spirit to question just why we prefer to trust in magic rather than to trust in God’s Love as our Holy Self. All forms of magic are simply substitutes for trusting only in God’s Love.  They cannot harm or heal the singular cause of suffering in our mind, however they do delay our development of trust in God’s Love. As repeated earlier, we are not asked to give up magic, as this would be the ego attempting to sabotage. All we are asked to do if we feel guided, is to continue to use our magic remedies but in each instance, ask Spirit into our conscious awareness while we do so. We ask Spirit to heal our perception (fear of God’s Love) as we use our magical substitutes for Love.

“What the world perceives as therapeutic is but what will make the body “better.” When it tries to heal the mind, it sees no separation from the body, where it thinks the mind exists. Its forms of healing thus must substitute illusion for illusion. One belief in sickness takes another form, and so the patient now perceives himself as well…” “He is not healed. He merely had a dream that he was sick, and in the dream he found a magic formula to make him well. Yet he has not awakened from the dream, and so his mind remains exactly as it was before.”W-140.1:2-5,2:1-3

“All material means that you accept as remedies for bodily ills are restatements of magic principles. This is the first step in believing that the body makes its own illness. It is a second misstep to attempt to heal it through non-creative agents.” T-2.IV.4:1-3

“Magic is the mindless or the miscreative use of mind. Physical medications are forms of “spells,” but if you are afraid to use the mind to heal, you should not attempt to do so.” T-2.V.2:1-2.

Part of the undoing process involves reviewing all the ego’s laws, particularly those we have placed our trust in as substitutes for the Power of God’s Love within. These include the laws of nutrition, traditional and holistic medicine, economics/finances, special relationships, physics, biological laws such as disease and aging, and the laws of nature, etc.  These laws are used by the ego as defenses against knowing that God’s Laws sustain our Being, and not the ego’s laws. We are under no laws but God’s unless we believe and therefore value, the ego’s laws.

My Holiness reverses all the laws of the world. And, I am under no laws but God’s. These are literal statements that when embodied, become more than mere statements. When the blocks begin to fall away, we learn to live out from these beliefs; they become our experience. They inspire boundless miracles that serve to demonstrate that we are indeed, under no laws but God’s. And in this, we begin to witness that our Holiness really does reverse the ego’s laws of this world. The body is not our identity and therefore we, independently and apart from Spirit, are not responsible for it. While we attempt to control, problem solve and plan for the body’s well being, we invite separation, suffering and death.

Accepting Your Healing

As Jesus tells us, sickness is a defense against the Truth. And sickness is always a decision that we make, although it happens so quickly, that we forget we made it. This seemingly unconscious decision to experience pain or sickness occurs because of inner conflict that has not been acknowledged. Instead of facing the conflict by looking at it with Spirit, we suppress and deny it. It must then be projected onto others and the body itself. However we could reverse our pain or sickness much faster if we were willing to ask Spirit to help us reveal the inner conflict so as it can be reinterpreted by Spirit. Our inner conflict represents the ego’s decision to reject Truth. Truth threatens the ego and it must retaliate with some form of pain or illness. Or perhaps with depression, lethargy or fatigue. These are all defenses against the Truth.

Physical pain is one of the ego’s loudest and most convincing defenses against the inner peace of knowing our invulnerable Identity. Pain gets our attention! It seems to make us one with the illusory body and we find it difficult to detach ourselves from its pain. Pain attempts to demonstrate that we have no authority over the body; that the body is lord of the mind and vastly more powerful than God’s all-encompassing Love. But pain is not God’s Will, remember? So why do we choose it?

“Pain is a sign illusions reign in place of truth. It demonstrates God is denied, confused with fear, perceived as mad, and seen as traitor to Himself. If God is real, there is no pain. If pain is real, there is no God. For vengeance is not part of love. And fear, denying love and using pain to prove that God is dead, has shown that death is victor over life. The body is the Son of God, corruptible in death, as mortal as the Father he has slain.” “Peace to such foolishness! The time has come to laugh at such insane ideas.” W-190.3,4:1-2

“Pain demonstrates the body must be real. It is a loud, obscuring voice whose shrieks would silence what the Holy Spirit says, and keep His words from your awareness. Pain compels attention, drawing it away from Him and focusing upon itself. Its purpose is the same as pleasure, for they both are means to make the body real. What shares a common purpose is the same.” T-27.VI.1:1-5

We choose pain, sickness and death because we’re afraid to discover the lies we continue to believe and thus defend, about our false identity and the silly roles it plays. Undoing illness or pain involves looking at all the ways we have been lying and deceiving ourselves. Where are we dishonest with our Self? Where are we judging others, not realizing that all judgment is really self-judgment as unconscious self-attack? Where are we being insincere or attempting to get approval from outside? Because if we are dishonest with our Self, we are untruthful with others. And all this lying accumulates more guilt as self-attack. Where do you keep yourself obligated while secretly feeling resentful?

To the ego it’s much easier to get sick than to review all the areas you might be lying to yourself. It may be a job, a relationship, or putting up with some form of sacrifice that is wearing you down. It might be something you did or didn’t do right in the past. Do you feel as if you have failed in something and your decision to believe in this failure sought punishment via pain or illness? Whatever degree of pain or sickness is showing up, it is a decision that can be undone. You can choose again in any Holy Instant. Recall that there is no hierarchy of illusions, thank God! The miracle can undo every conceivable illusion once the mistaken belief has been wholeheartedly forgiven and the Atonement (Healing) has been accepted. If there was a decision for pain or sickness and you sincerely desire healing of the mistaken perception that produced this condition, then you must be willing to express your vulnerability with an open heart. Allow Spirit in to help uncover and to witness what the ego has kept concealed. It takes courage to expose your greatest fears to Spirit yet healing is always the outcome.

God’s Will for us is always perfect joy and healing. And when we’re in conflict, pain or suffering, we withdraw from God’s Loving Will. We separate ourselves from the awareness of Love’s presence which is our Holy Self. In pain or conflict, we abandon our Self and God. If you really desire true healing, come into the present moment and be still. Remember that there is nothing you need to do to earn God’s Love…because you are God’s Love. Breath gently and relax. Be willing to feel deeply into your inherent guiltlessness and perfection within. Be willing to release all doubt and open your heart to “receive” all the Love that your fears and judgments previously blocked. Accept the healing that you have unconsciously denied. Your healing is God’s Will. See if you can feel the all-encompassing Love and healing that Spirit desires for you to receive, to accept. Ask for and receive God’s inevitable Will. You deserve miracles because you are a miracle.
