This deeply buried cause of sickness in any form is our erroneous belief that we’re separate from the eternal Fountain of Love –the Source of all healing.

When we are sick or in pain it’s because we still cling to this belief that we are separate. We rarely recognize the origin of sickness which is always a mistaken judgment or condemnation. The false-self repeatedly seeks to place the cause of pain everywhere else but where it lay which is with a treasured grievance or resentment. By steering us away from recognizing the seat of sickness (judgment) it makes sure we never heal the one cause of all separation, sickness and death.

If there is illness or pain then there is un-forgiven blame. And it’s this which must be healed as the single cause. Once the condemnation is forgiven then the body is free to demonstrate the Loving consequences – as healing – of union, rather than to manifest sickness as the result of separating.

When I am tempted to believe in pain or illness I have trained myself to ask where I have made a decision to separate. Do I hold a grievance against someone? Is it from the past or present? Where do I believe that I’ve been unfairly treated? And by whom? The decision for sickness comes from a choice to reject someone by way of condemnation or blame.

Yet it’s an impossibility to reject (judge) any one without firstly attacking our self. All attack is self-attack. And the body is the greatest repository for un-forgiven condemnation. It would be entirely impossible for the body to sicken or even to die if we had healed the false-self’s obsession to project onto others – and the body – our own hidden desire for self-attack.

We cannot Love and therefore heal the body unless we extend that Love as forgiveness to our brothers first.

The body is released and healed as we forgive those whom we perceived as having hurt, betrayed or abandoned us. We cannot heal (Love) the body until we release everyone from blame. The body is returned to Love –and healed – as we willingly forgive our brothers. All sickness arises from separation, from blame. Healing is the result of our genuine desire to “close the gap” with others via forgiveness.

“Uniting with a brother’s mind prevents the cause of sickness and perceived effects. Healing is the effect of minds that join (forgive), as sickness comes from minds that separate (blame).” T-28.III.2:5-6

If the primary cause of all illness and death is the erroneous belief that we are separate from the Fountain of Love, as our Holy Self, then the Sacred Bridge back to our Source is through union with our brothers.

The ego’s original purpose for making the body was to hood wink us into believing the illusion that each one of us is a separate body and that we are separate from each other along with our Source of Love itself. Being totally immersed in this delusion it further separated by making it appear that the illusory body has dominion over our mind. Yet only the mind can govern the body, in fact it made the body.

“Minds are joined; bodies are not. Only by assigning to the mind the properties of the body (separate bodies) does separation seem to be possible. And it is mind that seems to be fragmented and private and alone. Its guilt, which keeps it separate, is projected to the body, which suffers and dies because it is attacked to hold the separation in the mind, and let it not know its Identity.” T-18.VI.3:1-4

The body initially was made to separate us and now the Holy Self’s purpose is to use the body as a means to restore communication – Love – by our willingness to see everyone including our self, as sinless, as guiltless.

The body’s sole purpose is communication however very few realize its meaning or its value. Communication is Love. And Love is the complete absence of fear. Love as communication is interrupted or blocked by our belief in any of fear’s numerous descendents such as guilt, blame, judgment, defense, attack, worry, jealousy, sickness, pain, lack, loss and death, etc. All sickness arises from this interruption of communication. But thankfully heartfelt forgiveness restores communication and thus health.

Grievances break communication. Fear breaks communication just as guilt or blame does.  Forgiveness on the other hand, restores communication not only with our brothers but with God and our Holy Self. We cannot condemn another (break communication) and not suffer that same break with God and our Holy Self. This break in communication is the reason why the body sickens, ages and dies.

The body is completely neutral and has zero authority over the mind. Yet when pain or illness strike, there is an automatic response to project blame onto the body; or onto other illusory causes in the past (heredity for example) or in the world.

“It is insane to use the body as the scapegoat for guilt, directing its attack and blaming it for what you wished it to do.” T-18.VI.6:1

“You see yourself locked in a separate prison (body), removed and unreachable, incapable of reaching out as being reached. You hate this prison (body) you have made, and would destroy it. But you would not escape from it, leaving it unharmed, without your guilt upon it.” … “Yet only thus [can] you escape. T-18.VI.7:5-7,8:1

“The body will remain guilt’s messenger, and will act as it directs as long as you believe that guilt is real. For the reality of guilt is the illusion that seems to make it heavy and opaque, impenetrable, and a real foundation for the ego’s thought system. Its thinness and transparency are not apparent until you see the light behind it. And then you see it as a fragile veil before the light.” T-18.IX.5:1-4

It is impossible to learn to Love the body and have it healed while we still choose to believe that we were victimized by anyone, including our childhood. Ultimately, if we sincerely wish to heal then we must be willing to ask Holy Spirit to help us to forgive our self for having unknowingly used someone or something to attack our self,  so as to sever communication with Love which is “What” we are.

Do you wish to see your brother or sister as sinless? To the degree you do not want to forgive (see them as sinless) is the degree that you still wish for sickness, pain and separation for yourself. This is an undeniable result of the choice not to forgive. Because your will is free to choose separation you are also free to project that attack onto the body as sickness, pain, weight gain, loss, etc.

“Would you not have the instruments of separation (body) reinterpreted as means for salvation, and used for purposes of love? Would you not welcome and support the shift from fantasies of vengeance to release from them? Your perception of the body can clearly be sick, but project not this upon the body.” T-18.VI.5:1-3

 “You can stretch out your hand and reach to Heaven. You whose hand is joined with your brother’s have begun to reach beyond the body, but not outside yourself, to reach your shared Identity together.” T-18.VI.10:1-2

Love is What we are. Love is real, eternal, uninterrupted and unopposed communication. This and only this, is what we are here to learn. And the body is our faithful servant. But we will not know Love while we continue to believe that anyone, including our self, is undeserving of complete forgiveness. The body will always manifest our grievances as pain and disease – or – it will witness to our undivided Love as health and loveliness.

 “Love is not learned. Its meaning lies within itself. And learning ends when you have recognized all it is [not.] That is the interference; that is what needs to be undone.” T-18.IX.12:1-4

If to Love is to heal, then we cannot heal the body while we still choose to condemn.

In conclusion, it is impossible to heal the body unless we Love – forgive – our brothers. We may use magic medicine, therapy, surgery to heal the body temporarily. However without comprehensive forgiveness, the single cause of all illness, pain, loss and death remains unhealed and will return until the greatest of all lessons since the beginning of time, is finally learned.

SHORT VERSION OF FORGIVENESS PRAYER

You can use this in any instant that you feel triggered emotionally or physically. When expressed with heartfelt sincerity, this is an exceptionally powerful prayer that initiates the miracle:

“Holy Spirit, please help me to forgive MYSELF for having unknowingly used___(person, pain, sickness, lack, anxiety, self-judgment, anger, etc)____to attack myself, and to separate from your Love as my Holy Self. Amen.”
