To pray for physical healing is to wish with the ego. And this translates to being a futile attempt to heal through fear and not by Love. True prayer and healing occur when we acknowledge that our mistaken perception is the only cause of sickness. True healing of both cause in the mind and effect (in the body) will unfold when we learn to “will with God” instead of wishing with the ego. But we can’t will with God fully until we have begun the process of exhuming our unconscious fears of God; our distrust in God. Until then we will unknowingly resist full healing.

The problem that many face  is lack of faith and trust. By this I mean faith and trust in God’s Love exclusively. There are two fundamental areas in our perception that require attention before we can establish sufficient trust in God’s miracles. The first is to learn the undeniable difference between God’s Will and the ego’s. And the second is to begin the process of exposing and releasing our own unconscious means of self-attack which is our deep unworthiness and how we have unknowingly used others, our body, the past, and the world to self-sabotage. This is the forgiveness process (for the forgiveness/Atonement process click on this link). Unless and until we begin this process we will continue to fear and therefore reject God’s Love and healing unconsciously.

To acquire faith and trust in God’s healing, we must first learn to distinguish the difference between God’s perfect Will and what is clearly not God’s Will. Until we have established some level of experienced discernment between these two diametrically opposed sources we will not be able to heal with God consistently. Jesus teaches that “true denial” is a very important discipline that we must develop. There can be no transfer of healing without it. True denial is a prerequisite for the miracle to transfer from healed mind to healed body/world.

Once we exhume our unconscious fears of God’s Will and Nature, and discover that our fears arose from the unconscious projections of the ego’s god of fear, then we begin the process of redefining and trusting in God’s Loving Will (for the “unconscious fear of God” exercise, click here ). Now we can use true denial which is part of the forgiveness process, to sort out the valuable from the valueless; to separate Love from fear. We learn to deny anything not of God’s Will the power to hurt us. Remember that our ego will is just as powerful as God’s Will here in the dream. God’s Will cannot override our ego will which is the free will to suffer. That is why it’s crucial for us not only to learn the difference between the ego’s idle wishes and God’s Loving Will, but to learn to deny the unreal. When we deny the unreal we join with God’s Will which is all encompassing Love and healing with no opposite.

“You can do anything I ask. I have asked you to perform miracles, and have made it clear that miracles are natural, corrective, healing and universal. There is nothing they cannot do, but they cannot be performed in the spirit of doubt or fear. When you are afraid of anything, you are acknowledging its power to hurt you. Remember that where your heart is, there is your treasure also. You believe in what you value. If you are afraid, you are valuing wrongly. Your understanding will then inevitably value wrongly, and by endowing all thoughts with equal power will inevitably destroy peace. That is why the Bible speaks of “the peace of God which passeth understanding.” This peace is totally incapable of being shaken by errors of any kind. It denies the ability of anything not of God to affect you. This is the proper use of denial. It is not used to hide anything, but to correct error. It brings all error into the light, and since error and darkness are the same, it corrects error automatically.” T-2.II.1.

“True denial is a powerful protective device. You can and should deny any belief that error can hurt you. This kind of denial is not a concealment but a correction. Your right mind depends on it. Denial of error is a strong defense of truth, but denial of truth results in miscreation, the projections of the ego. In the service of the right mind the denial of error frees the mind, and re-establishes the freedom of the will. When the will is really free it cannot miscreate, because it recognizes only truth.” T-2.II.2.

The miracle cannot be accessed until we learn to deny anything not of God the power to harm us or another. This is true denial; Jesus asks us to deny the ego’s denial of truth.

God’s Healing Doesn’t Take Time ~ But Developing Trust Does

When we don’t know our true Identity as our Holy Self, while the ego is our primary mode of operation, we will have and value false humility. False humility is one of our last unconscious defenses against accepting the Power of the inner Christ. It manifests as doubt in the miracle’s perfect consistency of healing. But the real issue here is self-doubt. The miracle is facilitated through the Holy Self and not the ego self. So any doubt we have arises from the mistaken belief that our false self was involved in the healing (miracle). But this is impossible. When we accept the Atonement it is our Holy Self who receives it.

The very purpose of accepting the miracle is to undo this false self along with its fearful projections. Therefore it can never participate in true healing. Rather, this self represents our block to healing. And its relentless echoes of doubt and fear reveal that it cannot be by any means, a part of the healing process. That is why true healing involves surrendering our misperceptions, concerns, fears and doubts in exchange for the miracle.

False humility is a means of projecting ego doubt. Doubt acts a block to healing, causing a delay in the illusion of time between the instant the Atonement is received and the moment in which healing of the effect (suffering) is witnessed.  Advanced trust closes the seeming gap that lies between healing the cause of suffering in your perception and seeing its transfer to healed effect in form. This gap that seems to make healing take time comes from lack of faith and trust in God’s immediate healing. God’s Love which is healing, is immediate. It works outside the ego’s laws of time and matter. It is immediate because it always is, always was and always will be consistent in its extension of Love, joy and healing. Perfect healing has already occurred. Hence your only purpose is to receive it through accepting the Atonement. Remember this, “The sole responsibility of the miracle worker is to accept the Atonement for himself.” T-2.V.5:1

The reason you seem to experience a delay between the acceptance of healing and witnessing its result is because of your own doubt and feelings of unworthiness. The time that healing takes to transfer from cause to effect is in direct proportion to your degree of trust in God’s Will and Nature. Trust is the result of exhuming and releasing all your untrue beliefs, all your untrue projections onto the world and yourself. Thus is all guilt undone, and the ego’s laws reversed to reveal perfect Love within and without. The laws of this world are no longer feared as they are recognized as powerless over God’s Love.

To the degree you trust in the infinite healing of the Atonement will be the extent to which you will allow your shift in perception to transfer to physical healing. As discussed before, the time it takes to heal the effect is relative to your trust in only Love. Exclusive trust in the miracle is always accompanied by true denial of fear regardless of its form. There cannot be the presence of one without the other. This is precisely why the Atonement is the necessary prerequisite to the undoing of fear; which is healing in order to reveal the perfect state of Love that was always present beneath the ego’s appearance, i.e. its manifestation of fear. Nothing changes in reality, however, the ego’s hallucination (appearance) vanishes along with the guilt and fear that appeared to cause it.

Recall that the ego literally has no cause if the only Cause is God’s Love. Once you choose to value only God’s Loving Will with absolute certainty then this will be all you experience. Thus everything that is not of God’s Love will disappear before your eyes. Only God’s Cause and His Effects will remain to be witnessed.

Invoking the Miracle in Every Emergency

Regardless of the form of suffering you may witness, even if it appears to be another’s suffering, your acceptance of the Atonement is always helpful. There is no person nor circumstance that does not deserve the Holy Will of God. Only the false humility of the ego would question the right to anyone’s complete healing. People appear to have a choice as to whether to heal or not and this choice is purely an unconscious ego delaying tactic. Everyone deserves healing, everyone deserves to know their Holy Self. After all, remembering your True Identity is the sole purpose of this world. No one really has a choice about the eventual outcome of healing because healing is God’s Will. And God’s Will is already done. The only choice that appears to remain is their acceptance of this healing in the illusion of time. And your acceptance of the Atonement on behalf of another assists greatly in collapsing the time it seems to take for them to accept the perfect healing that has already been given them and yourself.

“Miracles are merely the translation of denial into truth. If to love oneself is to heal oneself, those who are sick do not love themselves. Therefore, they are asking for the love that would heal them, but which they are denying to themselves. If they knew the truth about themselves they could not be sick. The task of the miracle worker thus becomes [to deny the denial of truth.] The sick must heal themselves, for the truth is in them. Yet having obscured it, the light in another mind must shine into theirs because that light [is] theirs.” T-12.II.1.

Jesus speaks about the “fog” that obscures the miracle such as seeing and believing in sickness or pain. And that it is our responsibility to learn to look past the ego’s appearances on behalf of another. Their healing is always our own healing…

“The light in them shines as brightly regardless of the density of the fog that obscures it. If you give no power to the fog to obscure the light, it has none. For it has power only if the Son of God gives power to it. He must himself withdraw that power, remembering that all power is of God. You can remember this for all the Sonship. Do not allow your brother not to remember, for his forgetfulness is yours. But your remembering is his, for God cannot be remembered alone. [This is what you have forgotten.] To perceive the healing of your brother as the healing of yourself is thus the way to remember God. For you forgot your brothers with Him, and God’s Answer to your forgetting is but the way to remember.” T-12.II.2.

“Perceive in sickness but another call for love, and offer your brother what he believes he cannot offer himself. Whatever the sickness, there is but one remedy. You will be made whole as you make whole, for to perceive in sickness the appeal for health is to recognize in hatred the call for love.” T-12.II.3:1-3

Jesus reminds us not to allow someone who believes in sickness, to forget that his/her mind holds the Power of God within it. And that nothing made by the ego can attack them. Although we may not verbalize this directly, healing transfers to them through our own acceptance that the Power of God’s Love dwells as the one Holy Self we share. Our remembering is their remembering. We forgive for those who are not yet ready to forgive. When we decide to accept Atonement on behalf of another, we are healed. Forgiveness cannot be for one and not the other.

“Forgiveness cannot be for one and not the other. Who forgives is healed. And in his healing lies the proof that he has truly pardoned, and retains no trace of condemnation that he still would hold against himself or any living thing.” T-27.II.3:9-11

There is no Cause in the Past

The miracle does not do anything. All it does is undo. The effects of pain, sickness and death (or any other form of deprivation) are healed once the mistaken cause in our perception is genuinely healed through forgiveness. Remember that Jesus already established the Atonement on our behalf, he already undid all suffering and karma through his resurrection. He went forward and undid our unconscious guilt along with its effects, in advance. I will repeat again here that guilt, the singular cause of all suffering we seem to see, has already been undone. It does not exist any longer except when we choose to value the ego’s past teaching. The pain we seem to experience is a long since vanished echo that our un-relinquished guilt calls back into awareness and thus into manifestation, as an effect to be witnessed. This is what pain, sickness, scarcity and death are. They are purely echoes of a tormented past that has literally vanished but that we still choose to believe.

The miracle simply cancels out guilt which is the interference that causes all unconscious self-attack. Jesus tells us in the following paragraphs that the miracle merely takes away what is long since gone. Then he reminds us that if the cause of suffering is long gone, then the effects of suffering in whatever form it takes, must disappear. He also adds this, remembering a cause (guilt) can only produce illusions of its presence. It cannot produce effects (the physical symptoms of sickness, pain or death) in reality. All sickness and belief in death arise from an illusory cause in the past. But how can an illusory cause in a past that does not exist, possibly cause the effects of sickness, pain or death? To simplify, if the ego has no cause then all effects of suffering cannot remain in our experience unless we unconsciously desire them. “All the effects of guilt are here no more. For guilt is over. In its passing went its consequences, left without a cause. Why would you cling to it in memory if you did not desire its effects?”  T-28.I.2:1-4

“The miracle does nothing. All it does is to undo. And thus it cancels out the interference to what has been done. It does not add, but merely takes away. And what it takes away is long since gone, but being kept in memory appears to have immediate effects…The miracle but shows the past is gone, and what has truly gone has no effects. Remembering a cause can but produce illusions of its presence, not effects.” T-28.I.1:1-5

Everything we fear and seem to suffer from lies in a past that is literally gone. While we still blame our self, others, the body, the past and the world, we will continue to value and thus hoard the imaginary guilt that causes all unconscious self-attack.  What we have learned from the ego world and its past was never there, as such it has no cause. However when you recognize and accept this then all effects of a causeless past will fall away. This is what forgiveness is for, to acknowledge that what seemed to be done to you was done by you. When you are willing to realize this, that the cause of all suffering lay in an ancient past that is long since gone along with its effects, then you are free now. Now is the only instant of reality. And if you are willing to show up in this moment, free of the ego’s causeless past, then there is nothing the miracle cannot heal for you. The cause of all suffering is gone…as explained in the following quotes.

“Be glad that it is gone, for this is what you would be pardoned from. And see, instead, the new effects of cause accepted [now,] with consequences [here.] They will surprise you with their loveliness. The ancient new ideas they bring will be the happy consequences of a Cause so ancient that It far exceeds the span of memory which your perception sees.” T-28.I.7:6-9

“What [you] remember never was. It came from causelessness which you confused with cause. It can deserve but laughter, when you learn you have remembered consequences that were causeless and could never be effects. The miracle reminds you of a Cause forever present, perfectly untouched by time and interference. Never changed from what It is. And you are Its Effect, as changeless and as perfect as Itself.” T-28.I.9:1-6
