The Holy Self’s interpersonal miracle-drives as miracle-impulses are undistorted expressions of Love as God’s eternal and uninterrupted Life force. Because they transcend self-interests, they restore true communication. These miracle-impulses are infinite in number and emerge naturally from the all-inclusive Love we are as the one Holy Self, shared with all our brothers.

The miracle-drive’s benefits are preserved and increased as they are constantly extended or given away. They always transcend self-interests and therefore can be shared, thus it is in their extension that they bring true release from guilt and fear – as healing – both for the giver and the receiver of the miracle-impulse.

Because the miracle-drive is interpersonal and inclusive, it eclipses the ego’s desire for personal gratification.

In contrast, the ego’s personal pleasure-drives cannot be shared (self will). They block true communication. Because they are personal and self-directed, they siphon to and through the illusory body, which terminates their original goal of extension. Just like pain and sickness, their purpose is to make the body image real, as an idol apart from God. This safeguards the unconscious guilt the ego needs to guarantee interpersonal conflict and ensures that the body will be attacked, sicken, age and die. These personal pleasure-drives serve to intercept and block Love as God’s eternal Life force, causing sickness.

Whatever we seek through a personal will alone, whether it be the avoidance of pain or the seeking of pleasure, serves to divert our attention from closing the gap with our brother, which is the one function that would give us everything, including immunity to the ego’s laws of sickness..

Seeking personal pleasure independently from God engenders guilt because it bolsters the illusion that we are autonomous, separate from God and our brothers. But God’s Will is union and the miracle impulse is directed solely toward creating this experience. All suffering, conflict and illness are brought about by not only blocking these divine impulses but are also the direct result of the unavoidable buildup of unexpressed miracle impulses.

The ego’s compulsion to sequester personal pleasure and avoid pain, actually arises from an accumulation of unexpressed (unshared) miracle impulses. In trying to “get” its own needs met exclusively, it overlooks the only way to realize that all our needs are already met – by genuinely extending or sharing with others; by serving others and by forgiveness. These acts of sharing allow the miracle-impulses to extend and increase, thereby unblocking our own accumulated miracle-impulses. Emotional and physical healing are the result of this Loving extension because the cause of these ills – the buildup of unexpressed miracle-impulses – has been recognized and corrected.

This does not mean we give up pleasure but it does mean, when faced with temptation by the ego, we need to ask, “What is this for? Is it a self-directed pleasure drive? Or is it a miracle-driven impulse to genuinely extend or share?”

Our natural tendency as Love is to share, because by sharing Love it is magnified exponentially for others and our Self too. Giving is how to keep it by God’s Law. By not sharing or giving … is how to ensure loss for ourselves. Holding grievances is one way we block the miracle-drive’s extension. This turns the unforgiven fear onto the body as attack while it blocks the Life force of Love. This is the singular underlying cause of disease and death.

Recall that all personal pleasure seeking arises from fear because it comes from a false self that believes its will is independent from God’s. Attempting to succeed in fulfilling itself “alone” through its own will, ensures its own body’s demise. Only what can be genuinely shared is the Will of God. Personal will is exclusory, while the shared Will of God is the light, the Love and the Life force that keeps us on purpose, happy, healthy and peaceful.

“Remember that the Holy Spirit interprets the body only as a means of communication.” … “The ego separates through the body. The Holy Spirit reaches through it to others. You do not perceive your brothers as the Holy Spirit does, because you do not regard bodies solely as a means of joining minds and uniting them with yours and mine. This interpretation of the body will change your mind entirely about its value. Of itself it has none.”

“If you use the body for attack, it is harmful to you. If you use it only to reach the minds of those who believe they are bodies, and teach them [through] the body that this is not so, you will understand the power of the mind that is in you. If you use the body for this and only for this, you cannot use it for attack. In the service of uniting it becomes a beautiful lesson in communion, which has value until communion [is.]” … “Communication ends separation. Attack promotes it. The body is beautiful or ugly, peaceful or savage, helpful or harmful, according to the use to which it is put. And in the body of another you will see the use to which you have put yours.” T-8.VII.2:1,3-7,3:1-4,4:1-4
