Each one of us is teaching all the time. We’re teaching via every relationship we engage in. We are reinforcing our beliefs, teaching our self day and night even in our sleep. And just what is it that we teach over and over again? We teach exactly what we believe we are and what we believe we deserve. Are we worthy of God’s uninterrupted Love? Or do we play small by choosing to believe that we are unworthy?

Are we guiltless and incorruptible? Or are we guilty and deserving of punishment in the seeming form of random chaos (conflict, scarcity, pain, illness, etc)? Are we a teacher of fear or one of Love? Do we value judging others and our self? Or do we value forgiveness? Do we align with the ego’s self-doubt or with the Holy Self’s certainty of Who we are?

God Himself is incomplete without you. This is a fact. Do not hide from His Love in false humility which is really arrogance. As Jesus tells us, “To accept your littleness IS arrogant, because it means that you believe your evaluation of yourself is truer than God’s.” T-9.VIII.10:9

To teach is to learn. In everything we think, do or say we’re reinforcing our self-concept. And this is why if we desire to overcome suffering and separation we must learn to discern the fundamental intent (fear or Love) beneath everything we believe, say and do.

A teacher of God’s qualifications consist solely in this: “…somehow, somewhere he has made a deliberate choice in which he did not see his interests as apart from someone else’s.” M-1.1:2

This selfless urge to join another is a Holy Instant where the Holy Self’s light is released to extend itself. This is an opening for the Holy Spirit to communicate through us.

“When pupil and teacher come together, a teaching-learning situation begins. For the teacher is not really the one who does the teaching. God’s Teacher speaks to any two who join together for learning purposes. The relationship is holy because of that purpose, and God has promised to send His Spirit into any holy relationship. In the teaching-learning situation, each one learns that giving and receiving are the same. The demarcations they have drawn between their roles, their minds, their bodies, their needs, their interests, and all the differences they thought separated them from one another, fade and grow dim and disappear. Those who would learn the same course share one interest and one goal. And thus he who was the learner becomes a teacher of God himself, for he has made the one decision that gave his teacher to him. He has seen in another person the same interests as his own.”  M-2.5.

In my own experience as a teacher of ACIM I had to learn that it was not really “me” who did the seeming teaching. The most powerful teachings in which I participated were those that came through me, but were not from me. I was well aware that the material was for me as well as for those who listened.

If you want to teach this most precious message from A Course in Miracles remember that although you may hold a formal role as teacher or facilitator, you are not the teacher. If you think it’s your personal responsibility to teach material then it will be the spiritual ego projecting its take on the teaching and it will miss the lesson. Your responsibility is to invite God’s Love to flow through you; to facilitate the closing of the gap between those who show up to learn.

Nothing is random. When we are ready to learn, really learn, then the perfect people (students) will be sent to us. We may not feel qualified to teach however let’s remind our self of this. We are more than ready to teach especially when we have begun the initiation period of the “transfer of trust.” If we want to learn anew then part of this involves teaching or extending what it is that we want to learn for our self.

This is where we willingly engage in renouncing our false sense of self to reveal our Authentic Self. Through teaching we learn that our real safety lay in our defenselessness and not in how much we think we know or understand. Our key strengths lay in our radical self-honesty and emotional transparency. We are no longer attracted to putting on a false face to the world. We desire only whole and honest relationships. And we recognize that all relationships hold the potential to teach us.

Practice of the Seven Key Principles of Holy Relationship is crucial to staying mindful and present so we don’t fall for the temptation to abandon our self (here they are: https://nouksanchez.com/nouks-blog/the-seven-powerful-keys-to-holy-relationships/ ).

One thing I have found in teaching is that I learn so much from stepping aside and allowing Spirit to teach; the same with writing. I listen and take notes and much of what I hear does not come from my past learning.

Are You Ready to Teach?

So the question really is, “are you ready to LEARN?” If you’re truly ready to learn then you will be ready to teach a whole new thought system by demonstrating it yourself. When you practice the Seven Key Principles you are teaching yourself and others by demonstration.

Jesus tells us that certain pupils have been assigned to each of us. These pupils may include some of the people we know (our family, friends, colleagues, etc). Or as in my experience, seeming strangers will often show up to help us learn (teach) just how to close the illusory gap with each other, consequently healing the split in our own mind.

Remember this; whatever we share with others we strengthen in our own awareness. And this is why it’s so important to extend these teachings of forgiveness.

“Certain pupils have been assigned to each of God’s teachers, and they will begin to look for him as soon as he has answered the Call. They were chosen for him because the form of the universal curriculum that he will teach is best for them in view of their level of understanding. His pupils have been waiting for him, for his coming is certain. Again, it is only a matter of time. Once he has chosen to fulfill his role, they are ready to fulfill theirs. Time waits on his choice, but not on whom he will serve. When he is ready to learn, the opportunities to teach will be provided for him.”  M-2.1.
